April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4 1995 in seventh grade. She began playing the guitar as well as taking piano lessons, sparking her passion for writing songs. The first song she wrote was called Different which she composed at 12 years of age. When she was 14 April was devoted for a long period of time to creating song concepts and practicing her music. In the following months, April started taking trips across NY and LA together with her father to help them compose songs. April started to incorporate other relevant topics into the song, which she called the Take my Hand song for some acquaintances, including peer pressure issues and suicide among teens. Lockhart also has an ever-growing popularity as a lifestyle influencer as well as a spokesperson for the popular Clean Beauty company Ilia. Since she was born without a left hand, Lockhart is a major part of herself. But it's not the only thing she has to tell. As a result Lockhart's Instagram page doesn't shy away from her disabilities, yet it doesn't center around her disability as well. What's the message? The message? That we each contain multitudes, that our physical and identity bodies aren't what they appear. Lockhart talks via video in Nashville. "I do not wish for it to dictate my personal life. I'm not looking to be only known as a disability expert. My everyday life isn't directly affected by disability. I go about my regular, everyday life and find my own solutions to problems. It's also part of me so I think that it's crucial to speak about. Lockhart's self-acceptance journey will be one that lasts a lifetime, but she has been a source of inspiration in this regard. Even so, Lockhart admits to going through periods when she felt uncomfortable with her appearance, and the clothes with arms. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she likes and uploads photos on her Facebook page with pride. Self-love, she says is a journey. It's not clear when you'll reach the final stage. But, this isn't common for anyone who has insecurities. The people around you with that truly understand you and see through your eyes are the ones you should be relying on to remind you of what you're worrying about.
